This spoon handle was picked up at surface level from a nineteenth-century rubbish heap on Troodos Mountain, Cyprus. It is stamped with manufacturer details and was manufactured in 1878 by Moreton and Foster C&M. It has also been emblazoned with the War Department broad arrow. The spoon to which the handle was once attached would have been a military-issue item. It has also been stamped with the numbers 97 and 1425. These may relate to the soldier's unit and personnel number.
