This khaki wool armband dates from 1915 and relates to the introduction of the Derby Scheme to recruit volunteers for Kitchener's Army. The armband bears a large red felt crown in the style of the King's Crown. It was issued under the authority of the Army Council. It is stamped on the cotton-lined inside with this authority and the serial number L 68002. The armband is fastened with two buttons on the rear which appear to be made from resin.
The armband was worn by enlisted men prior to receiving their uniform.
